Mobile Apps

In talking with local businesses everyday, the controversy over Mobile Websites vs Mobile Apps is always at the forefront.  There is not one business owner that I speak to that does not bring up the fact that they have to have a Mobile App first.  The” App” word is a familiar word to them because they themselves have either an Android or iPhone smartphone of which they download app’s themselves and too it is a familiar word to them.

But this is not the first place to start in making your business Mobile ready!  Many business of whom I speak to that had built the app first really get frustrated with the whole Mobile process because they don’t see the results they want quickly and it is costly.  I always suggest bring in the sales first through our Mobile readiness strategies and then give your clients an added experience with apps.  Mobilizing your business does take a few months to Read More→

Apple showed off digital textbooks at its education event in New York this morning.

In watching the lastest news release unfold, our students must be happy.  It’s happening…to go to school soon you will have to purchase an iPad and down load your Grade Level Apps.  WOW!  Did you know there are over 20,000 educational Apps.  No more of the painful back slinging weighted down back packs.  On the evening news tonight, within my home town here in Canada, already there are school in beta testing mode with the iPad.

This will have a huge affect on bookstores on our planet as Apple goes worldwide in their launches.  This is a worldly trend happening to local businesses that will take bookstores down and more rental properties vacant.  Yuks another hit on local businesses!

But on the other hand there are so many positives, savings on educational costs, saving our trees (paper), etc.  Just think, a teacher stands at the front of the class as says, “Tonight download App 1234 as we will be working on that material in tomorrow’s class.”  And the list goes on and on.  Steve Jobs did say that he was going to enter in the book market place.  And here it is!  To bad he will not able to see the unfolding for his once again brilliant idea.

This is why I have preached over and over again to local business that Mobile is here to stay and they better get prepared!  With this new press release, Apps now just took on a whole new positioning power.  For EVERY entrepreneur out there weather you are a local business, speaker, author, coach, etc. you must strongly begin the process of getting your business website mobilized, creating kindle book formats and creating Apps.  I wasn’t really pushing Apps for my clients but it is so important now with this news to really begin getting your all businesses mobilized. Is your business ready for Mobile payments?  Mobile is getting bigger, slowly but surely. A few months ago I was shopping at Payless to capture their two for one deal.  I was very surprised when I went to the counter to cash out, I saw a sign saying, “Key in the Keyword ????? to ???? and Save 10%”.  (Sorry, I forget exacting what their keyword and text # was).  But, it was cool.  I was so excited for them because being a Mobile and Local Internet Marketing Specialist I want to see businesses grow with Mobile and this strategy was HUGE $$$ for them.  When I keyed this information into my Android, I got a message back, confirmed it with the cashier and sure enough I got an additional 10% off my purchase.  It would have been even better if I could have paid my purchase with my Android through my Paypal app.  So today, when I get a text message from them of their specials, I definitely try to make it to the store.

Anyway, my whole point of sharing this with you is that Mobile is BIG and if you have a brick and mortar business, it is really important that you really incorporate Mobile marketing strategies with your offline marketing strategies.  It is really key to help your business.  Today if I had a brick and mortar business, I would definitely be building my offline and online customers lists through email marketing and Mobile and Local Internet Marketing strategies.

With the announcement of the Google Wallet mobile payment system last week, small businesses will have new ways to process credit cards while shoppers can make “contactless” payments.

And while this service from Google is new, numerous pass-through services already allow people to use a their smartphones to pay for goods. PayPal had been among the dominant players in this arena, and has already responded to Google’s announcement by filing a lawsuit. PayPal remains a good service for buying things online, but it doesn’t work so well at the point of sale (POS).

Several other tools work well with POS systems, allowing small businesses to Read More→

Text Messaging Becomes Centerpiece Communication

The mobile phone has become the favored communication hub for the majority of American teens.

Teens, Texting, MobileCell-phone texting has become the preferred channel of basic communication between teens and their friends, with cell calling a close second. Some 75% of 12-17 year-olds now own cell phones, up from 45% in 2004. Those phones have become indispensable tools in teen communication patterns. Fully 72% of all teens2 — or 88% of teen cell phone users — are text-messagers. That is a sharp rise from the 51% of teens who were texters in 2006. More than half of teens (54%) are daily texters.  Read more at:

Using Mobile Apps In Your Business

Posted by: | Comments (5)

There is a lot of work and understanding of the development process in creating an app.  Apps can be very, very effective to increase sales, create a new stream of on-line customers (increase client base), promoting your business, etc, etc.  However, app development is a very expensive and lengthy development process.

Since I work in the Mobile and Local Internet arena I get asked a lot, by entrepreneurs around the world, if I would help them in developing an app for Mobile.  Unfortunately, I am not a software developer. There hasn’t been much public information around this topic from Google nor developers of the hows in developing an App until recently.  I always kept this in my radar to help my clients and promised them that as soon as I hear of any information pertaining to this I would post it on my blog.  So today I would like to share with you breaking news by Wayne Pan from Google on this very topic.  Wayne Pan is a Software Engineer at Google and he explains this so well.  It is about 36 min. long but so well worth the time.

If any business is thinking of developing their own App, I encourage you to watch the following video from Wayne.  You should also check out Google‘s new guide to the app galaxy and learn more.

I would love to hear your stories on your new app development.  Please share!
