Sometimes, it can feel like there are no other way to get more engagement from the fans. But there are actually some small tweaks that one can do to get people’s attention. You’d be surprised at how simple yet effective these tweaks can be. Remember, if an online business entrepreneur can do this and make an amazing monthly income so can a local business entrepreneur!
1.) Bring Back Emoticons
Not a lot of social media moderators know this, but a simple emoticon can make a whole lot of difference in terms of communicating or, more aptly, making an actual emotional connection with their audience. The thing is, emoticons have gotten a bad rap. Why is it that emoticons have been associated with low-class posts? Well, that’s because people (particularly those in the late Myspace) have over used emoticons so much, it has become totally uncool. It’s no different from the over use of hashtags. It just makes your page look stupid. But, done the right way, and with minimal usage, some emoticons can lend warmth to your posts. That would definitely be attention grabbing.
2.) Get News-worthy Up-to-date Content
Ok, you are not a reporter and you do not have time to find news breaking content all the time. But that’s not a problem, you can always use content, even if it isn’t yours. Now, before this last statement is misquoted into a rallying cry for plagiarism, hear out the rest first. Always quote your sources. News content can always be repurposed. Or if you just attend an event, you can live post or tweet updates and that will make your page an invaluable resource.
3.) Lessen Scheduling and Be Mobile
A lot of social media administrators use scheduling. And this is not a bad thing in and of itself. But the problem with scheduling is that admins become lazy with checking responses. Another problem a lot of them have is that they are tied to their desktops. This means that responses that are posted when the admin is already done with work, will be missed. The solution here is simple, go mobile and lessen the habit of scheduling posts. Keep your ear to the post using your mobile and you will be able to reply to your audience promptly. With facebook for example, getting responses fast is crucial for your post’s ongoing visibility.
4.) Experiment with What You Include In Photos
For picture heavy channels like Facebook and Pinterest, this one is very important. You may not realize it but not all types of images will appeal well to your audience. For example, did you know that for retailers, images of clothes that are worn by models get less engagement versus images that are not worn by a model? You should check your engagement levels and experiments with the types of images that you post. Then stick to the ones that your audience respond to the most.
With these four changes to your social media habits you can drastically increase engagement. These are great ideas that most any administrator can do with minimum budget. Enjoy!
